Let’s get real for a second. There’s not one style, colour or fabric that suits everyone. There’s just not! Deciding on bridesmaids dresses can be an absolute nightmare, especially when you have bridesmaids with very strong opinions on how they would like to look on your big day. But remember, it’s YOUR DAY so ultimately you get the final say (especially if you’re paying for them). So how can you make sure everyone is somewhat happy?
Again, it comes down to communication. Who is paying for them? Do you have a budget you need to stick to or will they have to pay for their own. Be very clear on this BEFORE you go shopping to avoid any awkward changeroom conversations later.
What’s your aesthetic? What colours do you have in mind? What style will fit with your venue? If your wedding venue is a converted barn, you won’t be having floor length satin bridesmaids gowns, surely.
Are your bridesmaids different shapes and sizes? What looks amazing on a size 8 may not look as great on a curvier body and visa versa. And there’s only a small proportion of brides that can pull off a strapless dress, I don’t care who you are!
Many brides are choosing to have their bridesmaids’ dresses in similar tones e.g., pastels or earthy tones without trying to all look exactly the same, coz we know that’s not going to happen anyway!
Talk to your posse, set the expectations early and really think about the style, it’s been a long time since the puffy sleeve trend was cool. Just sayin
